Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, ensured that the government, amongst other issues, tackled the question of multiple taxation.
Pantami said the government discussed other issues that concern telecommunications operators such as right of way issues and infrastructure security.
He clarified that this would help to track rapid deployment and penetration of broadband infrastructure.
This was disclosed by the Minister when asking the Nigerian Commission of Communications (NCC) to ensure successful monitoring and management of the overall implementation of the NBP 2020-2025.
He talked at the launch of NCC’s Technical Services Executive Commissioner Engr. Ubale Maska, as chairman of the newly inaugurated Steering Committee for Broadband Implementation (BISC) yesterday in Abuja.
The minister claimed that it is the committee’s responsibility to ensure “successful monitoring of the NBP’s (2020-2025) implementation.”
“The journey began in October 2019 with the President’s approval of the transformation of the Ministry and its parastatals from pure ICT institutions into digital economic institutions. Following this, the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) was unveiled in November 2019 and the new NBP 2020-2025 was created, initiated by the President in March 19, 2020.
“Right of way issues, security for telecom infrastructure and multiple taxation are tackled from all sides, critical for rapid broadband infrastructure deployment and penetration.”
